Job Description

Prosthodontic practice, management of patients, and prescriptions will be accomplished in accordance with applicable AFMS clinical practice guidelines, JCAHO/HSI standards and instructions set forth in the facility where privileges are awarded. Examines and diagnoses disabilities caused by severely worn or missing teeth and loss of supporting structures; formulates and executes treatment plan for construction of corrective prostheses. Examines patients to determine requirement and type of dental prosthesis. Analyzes jaw relationships and movement and formulates required treatment plan. Constructs fixed, removable and implant supported prostheses. Performs patient treatments in accordance with current AF Clinical Practice Guidelines. Provides consultation services. Coordinates with dental laboratory activities. Treats patients with prosthodontic restorations. Coordinates prosthodontic service with other dental and medical services. Instructs dental officers, technical assistants, and laboratory technicians in prosthodontic procedures and techniques.

Job Requirements

Holds a doctor of dental surgery or a doctor of dental medicine degree from an American Dental Association (ADA) accredited college or university. Shall be Board Certified in Prosthodontics by the American Board of Prosthodontics (ABP). Shall have and maintain an active, valid unrestricted, current dental license (with no limitations, stipulations or pending adverse actions) in a US jurisdiction. License must correspond to Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) registration number. Possess a valid DEA number in order to write prescriptions for controlled substances. Completion of a residency in prosthodontics acceptable to the Surgeon General, HQ USAF or an advanced specialty education program in prosthodontics accredited by the ADA Commission on Dental Accreditation. Shall be performing clinical prosthodontics for at least 12 months out of the last 18 months.
